Co-Chair: Dr. Alex Gu
Dr. Alex Gu is the founding Dean of the School of Microelectronics at Shanghai University, with concurrent appointment as the CTO of Shanghai Industrial uTechnology Research Institute (SITRI). Dr. Gu’s research interest lies in piezoelectric MEMS sensors and MEMS/ASIC monolithic integration.
Before SITRI, Dr. Gu was the Deputy Executive Director of the Institute of Microelectronics (IME), Singapore, overseeing all of the Institute’s strategic R&D programs, including Advanced Optics, Sensors, Actuators and Microsystems, and Miniaturized Medical Devices. His work bridges sensor design, micro fabrication, sensor/ASIC integration, and WLP/CSWLP/SIP packaging; notably in piezoelectric AlN acoustic sensors, 4G/5G RF MEMS filter, and monolithic ultrasound sensor/ASIC integration. Prior to IME, Dr. Gu spent 11 years at Honeywell Advanced Technology Labs, leading the Lab’s Chem/Bio sensing activities, serving as Principal Investigator and Project Manager of multiple DARPA projects.
Dr. Gu is the author/co author of 50 peer reviewed journal papers; 90 top conference proceedings; and 20 granted patents. Dr. Gu is the recipient of the 2014 Presstigious Engineering Achievement Award by Institution of Engineers Singapore; and the 2016 TALENT award by A-Star. Dr. Gu received his M.E.E (2001) in Electrical Engineering and PhD in Pharmaceutics (2003), both from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
Founded in 2013, SITRI is a new kind of international innovation center, focused on globally accelerating the innovation and commercialization of “More than Moore” (MtM) technologies. We provide pivotal services especially for startups to speed up the time from concept to commercialization. We help to cut down the cost and we are the bridge from your lab to volume production. SITRI has expertise drawn from across the industry in key technology areas, resources, and industry related services with a global network of SITRI offices and talent. This is augmented by SITRI’s extensive partnerships and industry associations across the university, research, supply chain, and OEM sectors, and acts as the hub for efficient global development of the IoT and MtM markets.
